Venice is a city of 270,589 residents
of northeastern Italy. It is the capital of the Veneto and the province
of the same name.
Venice is composed of 120 small islands joined by about 4,000 bridges.
You reach Venice from the mainland by Liberty Bridge accessing Piazzale
Roma.
Since its foundation the city has suffered from periodic flooding. Currently
the city is considered a serious threat by the repeated floods. In spring
and autumn is the so-called high water ( 'high tide') twice daily and
Piazza San Marco is flooded with water. The Italian government is preparing
a project, called Moses to build levees that would close mobile in case
of rising sea water
By the peculiarities of urban planning and the priceless heritage of
art, Venice is universally regarded as one of the most beautiful cities
in the world and is a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. One factor that
has contributed to the Italian city to increase its flow of tourists,
mostly from abroad.
