Santiago de Querétaro is the capital and largest city in the Mexican state of Querétaro. Santiago has a population of 841,386 inhabitants and its metropolitan area reaches 1,016,481 inhabitants, which places it as the eleventh largest city in Mexico. The city was founded on 25 July 1531, at the crest of Sangremal. The original name was the "Santiago de Querétaro" in honor of the patron and batallador Spain: Saint James the Apostle and the name given by chichimecas: Querendaro or Cretaro between clubs in the land of the Aztecs Tlachco that after the Independence of Mexico was only in "Ontario" or "City of Querétaro. However, after his appointment in 1996 as a World Heritage site, was resumed the original name of "Santiago de Querétaro"
