The City and County of San Francisco is located in the middle of a hilly peninsula that separates San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean. It is the fourth most populated city in the state with 776,773 inhabitants, while its metropolitan area is over 7 million inhabitants, being not only the largest of the United States but also worldwide, where thanks to the activity of Silicon Valley has been a pioneer in the information revolution.
Located near the San Andreas fault, the city suffers earthquakes with some regularity, the most important of which was from 1906 and n'obligà an almost total reconstruction.
