Beijing is the capital and a major
cultural center of China. The name means Northern Capital.
The city is located in the north, 110 km from the Bohai Sea and the north
end of the Northern Great Plain, just south of the Great Wall.
It is in this city where the famous monuments such as the Forbidden City
and Temple of Heaven, which are world heritage.
Both structurally and architecturally, the city has changed a lot since
the 2008 Olympics.
From an economic point of view, Beijing is the third city in China after
Hong Kong and Shanghai. It has a very fast economic growth.
As to population, with 17.400.000 Beijing residents, is the second
city in the country behind Shanghai.
Beijing is an important transport hub, with dozens of railways, roads
and motorways passing through the city. It is also the focal point of
many international flights to China.
