Bangkok is the capital and largest city of Thailand. The full ceremonial name is Krungthepmahanakhon Amonrattanakosin Mahintharayutthaya Mahadilokphop Noppharatratchathaniburirom Udomratchaniwetmahasathan Amonphimanawatansathit Sakkathattiyawitsanukamprasit, which means' city of angels, the great city, the eternal jewel city, the impregnable city of God Indra, the grand capital of the world endowed with nine precious gems, the happy city, abounding in an enormous Royal Palace that resembles the heavenly abode where reigns the reincarnated god, a city given by Indra and built by Vishnukam '. To facilitate discussions locals refer to it as Krung Thep Maha Nakhon. The Guinness Book of Records does not recognize it as the city with the longest name in the world as it is a place name in disuse.
It is located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River Delta which crosses the western part of the city. The southern boundary of the city is on the Gulf of Siam with Bangkok's commercial port.
The city has a population of 9,100,000 inhabitants, and taking into account all the great Bangkok metropolitan area, this has 13,000,000 inhabitants. The city has gone from being a rather homogenous Thai population to an increasingly vibrant mix with groups from India and China, making it an increasingly cosmopolitan city.
He received the title of capital of Thailand from 1768, after burning Ayutthaya. From here, Bangkok has grown to become the political, social and economic development, not only in Thailand but throughout Indochina and Southeast Asia. Its influence on art, politics, fashion, education and entertainment as well as in the business world, Bangkok has provided a global city status.
Bangkok is about two meters above sea level, causing several problems to protect the city against flooding during the monsoon season. Often after a downpour, the river channels and channel overflows, resulting in flooding.
